DIMENSIONAL SHEET METAL CONSTRUCTIONS

“I’m drawn to the tarnished surfaces of abandoned commercial graphics and sheet metal objects, and to the interesting patinas that nature adds to them. I use fragments of old signs, discarded product containers, and rusty scrap metal to build dimensional collages and assemblages. With years of wear and tear, the type, graphics and metal surfaces have taken on appealing variations in color and texture. A collection of old junk becomes my palette for these layered constructions.

“I studied graphic design at ArtCenter College of Design in Los Angeles, and spent most of my career as a freelancer, creating corporate and brand identities. So, I guess it’s no surprise to see commercial imagery in some of my work. The geometric shapes are simple and familiar, sometimes incorporating universal symbols. I enjoy playing with form, color, and texture, often experimenting with asymmetry over an underlying symmetrical structure.”
